Go Green on Earth Day!
April 22, 2013 – Earth Day
On this day, we at Sustainability Initiatives urge you to take a pledge and Say No to Plastic Bags.
Every year over 500 billion plastic bags are produced and consumed around the world; which means that over 1 million bags are being used each minute!
Over 1 million birds, animals and marine life die each year due to swallowing or getting trapped in plastic trash!
On this occasion, Sustainability Initiatives in association with The Western Routes, Sanctuary Asia magazine and Earth Day Network organised an event on 21st April 2013 to create awareness about not using plastic/ polythene bags as these are very harmful to the environment. The event was organised at two locations in the city: Kamala Nehru Park, Prabhat road and Tathawade Garden, Karvenagar; where we distributed one reusable, Eco-friendly bag and a Sanctuary Asia magazine to every visitor for free. Every visitor also signed a pledge to avoid using plastic bags and go for reusable bags. Through this event we were able to make an impact on over 500 individuals.
