The Earth Centre shall serve maximum segregation, diversion, treatment and recovery to reduce the landfill area requirement and reduce the environmental and social impacts. The project also eventually aims to provide better neighborhood level opportunities to the citizens for up-cycling and recycling their domestic waste. The Earth Centre is primarily targeted to serve as a neighborhood decentralized solid waste treatment and diversion unit with an inherent character to be citizen friendly. The idea is to engage citizens in solid waste management through responsible behavior, in contrast to viewing this public infrastructure as dirty and “someone else’s job”. Since the Earth Centre has been developed as a prototype, it can be adapted and easily replicated throughout the city. Earth Centre prototype is planned with a green area equal to its Building Footprint with its own Solar PV Roof top plant and is designed as a sustainable model. The peripheral plantations are designed to act a buffer zones. Earth Center is not merely a Solid Waste Treatment Facility, but much more!  Its an opportunity to trigger a behavioral change… very much needed for sustainable development. People’s participation and involvement is a key ingredient and an important part of Earth Centre’s design brief.
