The Government of Maharashtra has declared the first week of the month of July i.e., 01-07-2016 to 07-07-2016 as Vana Mahotsav. On this occasion the Forest Department along with the Social Forestry Department took up an initiative of planting 2 crore trees on 1^st July 2016.

Sustainability Initiatives, a not to profit organization has helped to spread awareness regarding the same. The plantation activity required participation from the citizens in large numbers. Sustainability initiatives gathered representatives for the same. This activity was carried out at Smritivan near the Ganpati Matha Tekdi at Warje. The location was approved by the Government of Maharashtra.
