Green roofs

As the city of Pune is growing rapidly, it needs to adapt to the extremes of climate change, increased energy consumption, loss of greenery/ biodiversity, amenity space and contribute to healthy living. Energy consumption in buildings is dependent on envelope design. More barren roofs and exposed concrete surfaces leads to more heat gain in buildings resulting in an urban heat Island effecting the micro climate of the place resulting in increased temperatures.

Earth Centre

Sustainability Initiatives, VK:a architecture and VK:e environmental team developed an Earth Centric Unit referred as"Earth centre" through research. Earth Centre prototype was created with a vision to perform valuable environmental and public service as a de-centralized solid waste management facility with a window of opportunity to engage citizens in the responsibility of garbage management.

International Training

Sustainability Initiatives successfully conducted our first International Training on ‘Urban Renewal and The Future of Cities’ in December 2018. This training was conducted for Officers / Town Planners of the Department of Town Planning and Valuation of Government of Maharashtra.

Traditional Wisdom and Technology for Sustainability

Sustainability Initiatives in association with Gandhi Research Foundation, Jalgaon organised the 7th GRIHA regional conference on the topic Smart cities and Smart Building- Traditional Wisdom and Technology for Sustainability. This 2 day conference on 4-5 December 2015 was a successful event with participants more than 150 from in and out of Jalgaon. It took place at Jain hills at Jalgaon.

Way Ahead for Indian Cities_World Environment Day

World Environment Day is celebrated each year to mark the Stockholm Conference on Human Environment of the United Nations in 1972. It was the first ever international conference that focused on the environment. The United Nations announces the theme of the conference each year and the theme for 2019 was Air Pollution.
